Defining Home: Envisioning Opportunity & Justice In The Rural South.
Natalie A. Collier, The Lighthouse
Lou Murrey, Stay Together Appalachian Youth Project
Sara Kugler, The National Crittenton Foundation
Rural communities in the U.S. South are often either left out of public discussion or narrowly defined through a deficit lens. This session will focus on how young women & nonbinary folks from the rural South define home, create opportunity, and envision justice in and for the communities where they live and work.
Resisting Invisibility: Native Girls In The Justice System.
Addie Rolnick, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Williams S. Boyd School of Law
Erik R. Stegman, Center for Native American Youth, The Aspen Institute
American Indian and Alaska Native girls’ experiences in tribal, federal, and state justice systems are not adequately reflected in juvenile justice system data efforts. Given their historical legacy, Native girls are positioned in a unique way. At the same time, their uniqueness makes them less visible and less understood. Panelists will share a new report on Native girls, describe a roundtable that helped lead to the report’s publication, and hear Native girls’ stories.
Registration is Open!
