Today National Crittenton president Jeannette Pai-Espinosa issued the following statement in response to New York Times’ October 21 article “‘Transgender’ Could Be Defined Out of Existence Under Trump Administration“:

“National Crittenton believes all young people should have the right to define themselves on their own terms and be respected and supported without fear of violence or injustice. The reported changes proposed by the Trump administration to the definition of gender under Title IX are a clear, unconscionable assault on the dignity and humanity of trans individuals. Trans youth regularly face bigotry, discrimination, and violence for simply claiming their identity and seeking to be recognized and respected. National Crittenton condemns this reported proposal, which will only serve to violate the rights and endanger the lives of trans and gender nonconforming youth.”
