Colin Kaepernick has selected Youth Service Inc., a member of the Crittenton family of agencies in Philadelphia, to receive a $10,000 donation as part of his Million Dollar Pledge initiative. YSI is one of more than 30 organizations Kaepernick selected across the country who are advancing justice in their communities.
Kaepernick’s donation to YSI was matched by rapper Meek Mill and retired NBA star Kobe Bryant for a total donation of $30,000.
Youth Service, Inc. has provided immediate shelter and support services to Philadelphia’s children, youth, and families for over 65 years. YSI offers unique programs and niche services throughout the city, including Philadelphia’s only Crisis Nursery Programs and the largest shelter in the area for homeless and runaway teens. Through shelter, counseling, and in-home support services, YSI reaches more than 5,000 clients annually, the majority of whom live below the poverty level.
“All of the young people coming to Youth Service, Inc. for support thank you for your kindness and generosity,” Youth Service, Inc. said in a tweet, “You have given us hope.”
Despite my brother @meekmill’s current circumstances, he continues to stay connected in the community of Philly. He pledged to go #10for10 on my #MillionDollarPledge. We’re both donating $10k for a combined $20k to Youth Service Inc. Keep staying strong Meek, we love you brother! pic.twitter.com/ZCbecqtPF6
